Zach Braff & I Talk About Sober Curiosity
“I know there’s this new movement called sober curious and I definitely find myself in that category.”
Happy Hump Day! I’m Tawny, an advice columnist better known as “The Sober Sexpert” and author of Dry Humping: A Guide to Dating, Relating, and Hooking Up Without the Booze. I’m here to empower you to find your *intrinsic* courage without booze—regardless of your relationship status—one date at a time.
While I continue to promote my book—which I admit is pretty exhausting!—I’m sharing some words of wisdom from Zach Braff. Earlier this year, he stopped by Recovery Rocks podcast to talk about his new movie, A Good Person. He wrote and directed this heart-wrenching film about grief, recovery, substance abuse, toxic family dynamics, and heartbreak. Needless to say, it’s a heavy film, but, damn, it’s a must-see film available for streaming on Roku, Amazon Prime, and Apple TV.
My book comes out in TWO WEEKS! Ahhhhh! I’m also excited to share that The Dry Humping Start Guide is officially ready! Submit your preorder receipt here to receive your free PDF filled with the following:

Zach opened up to Lisa and me about why he wrote such a heavy film and even shared some of his own struggles with substance abuse. He, too, feels inspired by the sober curious movement.
Here’s what Zach Braff told us about sober curiosity:
“I battle my own addictions. I don’t work a program, but I’m really taking a new look, for myself, at sobriety. I know there’s this new movement called sober curious and I definitely find myself in that category.”
“I never felt like there was anything speaking to me before. Someone who might not necessarily need a program, but also is interested in not drinking. And now I feel like there’s a new wave, a new conversation.”
He even joked that when he decides to eschew booze for a night, he must reassure his friends that he’ll still be his fun self, “I find myself saying, when I’m not drinking [and] people are let down. I say, ‘Don’t worry! I promise I’m going to be a lot of fun!’ This is all new to me.”
Apparently the societal pressures of liquid courage affect celebs, too. We’re so grateful for Zach’s incredible film paired with the raw vulnerability that he shared on this episode of Recovery Rocks.
